Diamond’s Laws to Live By


Diamond’s Laws to Live By  have now been updated!

Thanks to a former student (and colleague of mine at KBHU) for typing and sending in a ton of Diamond’s Laws.

Diamond is a big believer in mental healthy and virtuous living.  He lived through some of the most historic – and hedonistic – periods of rock ‘n’ roll history.   These Laws helped Diamond thrive the rock industry, and build a personally and professionally successful career.

Generations of his colleagues and students have benefitted from these mantras.    Personally, Diamond’s Laws to Live By have been corner stones of my life and career.  Simple and elegant, Diamond’s Laws shaped how I think and how I act with my friends and work.  

I hope that by posting on the Diamond Mine,  Diamond’s Laws can continue to help and shape lives.

Here are a few of my favorite Laws:

Fear is one of the most negative emotions. It can immobilize the best of people.

Rebellion against your weaknesses gets you nowhere. Self-pity gets you nowhere. One must have the adventurous daring spirit to accept oneself as a bundle of possibilities and understand the most interesting game in the works is making the most of one’s best.

Expect the best and your outlook will draw opportunity and good people to you. Good people do not want to be around people who talk about their illnesses, problems, etc.

You have to find true happiness and peace within yourself.


Nothing worthwhile will be gained without effort and concentration.


The person who says money can’t buy you happiness doesn’t know where to shop.

Always on the cusp of innovation, in the summer of 2005 Dave Diamond launched a podcast. His podcast, a reprise of the Diamond Mine Radio Show, was a mixture of the classic, deep, poetic, and rockin Dave Diamond 60?s radio vibe. The show was recorded for Black Hills State University on the college radio station KBHU.

A total of three ‘new’ Diamond Mine episodes were recorded.  This is the first episodes – the others will be posted over the next few days, then archived on the ‘Podcast’ page.

There are also several gigs of Diamond airchecks currently being archived on Amazon S3 – while some of the content remains the property of the original rights holders, much of it will be made publicly available upon request.  Please check back to this blog for details.

The Diamond Mine Podcast


Always on the cusp of innovation, in the summer of 2005 Dave Diamond launched a podcast.  His podcast, a reprise of the Diamond Mine Radio Show, was a mixture of the classic, deep, poetic, and rockin Dave Diamond 60′s radio vibe.  The show was recorded for Black Hills State University on the college radio station KBHU.

Hey – this is the home of broadcaster and professor Dave Diamond. The webmonkeys (read: former students) are in the process of constructing this place, but you can drop the Diamond an email at davediamond [at] bhsu [dot] edu or leave a comment below.

Some time soon this site will include a background and history of Dave Diamond, air checks form his days at LA’s KFI and San Francisco’s KFRC, and three episodes of his Diamond Mine podcast.
